Frequently asked questions
It depends on the assets and the clock. An auction sets a date, creates competition, and clears a whole facility at once. Private treaty suits a small number of high-value machines where a negotiated price beats a hammer price. An orderly liquidation sells over a longer window from your floor. HIG recommends the structure after an asset review, and most plant projects combine two of the three.
From engagement to broom-swept turnover, a single-location timed online sale typically runs six to ten weeks: two to three weeks to catalog and market, one to two weeks of bidding, and two to three weeks for payment and removal. Phased closures with production still running take longer and are scheduled around the operating plan.
HIG is paid from the sale, through a seller commission, a buyer's premium, or a combination set out in the engagement agreement. Marketing, cataloging, and sale management are included in that structure rather than billed up front. Rigging, cleanout, and scrap are quoted separately when the seller wants HIG to handle them.
Not always, but it answers the question that drives every other decision: what the equipment is worth under a sale, a lender's recovery, or an insurance claim. HIG's appraisal team can produce a USPAP-compliant report before the sale strategy is set, and the same inspection data feeds the catalog, so nothing is done twice.
It is dealt with before the sale ends, not after. Reserves are set from market data so that unsold lots are rare; anything that remains is moved to private treaty, sold for scrap value, or removed as part of the cleanout, depending on what nets the seller more. The seller is never left with a half-empty building and no plan.
Yes. HIG's Scrap and Demolition Division manages equipment decommissioning, selective tear-outs, scrap processing, and broom-swept turnover, and coordinates approved riggers for buyer removal. Running the sale and the cleanout under one contract keeps the schedule and the liability in one place.
